The Daughters of Penelope — North America’s Hellenic women’s organization — Vancouver Poseidon Chapter 179, recently held a fundraiser to raise money for the War Amps’ Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program.
The CHAMP Program offers special services to child amputees and their families, including financial assistance, regional seminars and peer support.
CHAMP serves children in Canada (under 18) who are born missing a limb or have lost a limb due to an accident or medical causes. Children who are missing multiple limbs may also qualify for enrollment in ‘Jumpstart’ where they can receive funding for computers and assistive computer devices.
The event was held at the Greek-inspired residence of long-time American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) member and past president Dino Kourtesis, who kindly offered his home for this cause.
Luckily, the unpredictable weather of Vancouver was warm and guests were able to sit outside comfortably in the front and back yards or on the balcony, to enjoy the scenery.
All the wine and food was all donated and made by many of the Daughters of the Vancouver chapter, and brought to the event on the same evening.
Daughter of Penelope, Marina Frangolias, said: “We (DOP) are so very grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in these children’s lives. Thank you to all for coming and who participated in the wine and 50/50 raffles and congratulations to the winners.”
The Daughters also gave special thanks and gratitude to long-time AHEPAN Alex Tsakumis, who in the past has also held the offices of president and later on district governor, for his truly generous donation to this event and cause.
Frangolias also told Greek Reporter that the Daughters of Penelope Vancouver Chapter is always looking to grow and would like to welcome new members to come and join this truly rewarding organization.
