Montreal’s M.A.G.I.C. Mission: Greeks Helping Greeks

M.A.G.I.C. Mission — a volunteer-led effort to help Greek children and families blighted by the economic crisis — was founded in Montreal, Quebec, in 2012.

Affected by devastating impact of Greece’s economic turmoil, in March 2012 a group of volunteers of the Hellenic Community of Montreal decided to mobilize the wider Greek community.

M.A.G.I.C. Mission’s motto — “No child should be left hungry” — is the driving force for a constant quest for humanity, love and solidarity with the children of Greece.

From March 2012 to the present day, M.A.G.I.C. Mission has given and continues to give help to more than 45 organizations and institutions throughout Greece.

Constant help is provided to Greece in the form of containers which are full of food, clothing, medication, toys, baby food and other items that the organizations require.

The work of M.A.G.I.C. Mission is well known throughout Greece. Letters and emails are constantly being sent from various institutions in Greece that help children, but also from food banks, orphanages and detention centres.

Help has also been provided to areas affected by earthquakes, particularly orphanages on the islands of Lefkada and Kefalonia.

The initial project of M.A.G.I.C. Mission was to provide help to the organization ‘A Child’s Smile’.

In 2012, M.A.G.I.C. Mission established a new centre in Old Corinth, where they arranged to send kitchenware, electric cookers, refrigerators, washing machines, and other necessary items, that were all bought in Greece.

It responds quickly to all appeals for help, from Crete to Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace, Dodekanissa, Arcadia, Messinia, Lakonia, Fokida, Lesbos and Samos.

M.A.G.I.C. Mission is able to achieve this by working in collaboration with the Greeks of Montreal, which includes individuals as well as small and large enterprises who respond to their calls for help.
