Greece has Always won when it has been United, Dep FM Quick Tells Vancouver Greeks

Addressing Greek-Canadians in Vancouver on the March 25th national holiday, when Greeks celebrate the start of the 1821 revolution to shake off Ottoman rule, Deputy Foreign Minister for expatriate Greeks, Terens Quick stressed that Greece has always emerged victorious when it has been united.

“Greece has never lost but alway emerged victorious through unanimity and the logic of unity,” Quick said. “A unanimity and unity that is today also made imperative in the face of the ultimate goal, an end to the crisis in our country and its progress on the path of growth”.

Greece has never fought wars of aggression or moved against another country but has always stood up for itself and fought to defend its freedom, its borders and its territorial integrity against those that chose to assert themselves without respecting international law and international treaties, he added.

This was a message that Greece now chiefly addresses to its “recently nervous and provocative neighours,” Quick noted, while assuring his audience of Greece’s continued dedication to the values and principles that were the basis for the foundation of the EU, 60 years earlier.

After completing his trip to Vancouver, Quick left for Montreal in order to attend celebrations for March 25th by the city’s Greek community on Sunday, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as head of ceremonies. On the sidelines of the events, Quick is scheduled to meet the Canadian premier.
