Greek Photographers Exhibition in Toronto

thessaloniki

The exhibition, entitled Identity, is organized by the Greek America Foundation during Greek Film & Foto Week (GFFW) in Toronto, Canada. The event is part of Scotiabank Festival, the largest photography festival in the world which takes place from May 2 to May 7.

The exhibition includes the work of various Greek photographers and filmmakers from Greece and North America who are focusing on identity issues. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Greek Film & Foto Week has been organized, but it is the first time that works by Greek artists who live and work in Greece are being presented.

The exhibition explores the ways in which the economic and political crisis in Greece has affected the Greek identity. Its aim is to open a dialogue between artists of the Greek Diaspora in North America and the artists who live and work in Greece.

Furthermore, the exhibition will present the work of young, well-established photographers of Greek origin who live in North America (curator: Voula Monoholias), and the work of artists who live in Greece which will show the changing identities (curator: Aliki Tsirliagkou).

The participating artists from Greece are: Yorgos Yerolymbos, Thodoris Zafeiropoulos, Nikos Markou, Myrto Papadopoulos, Angela Svoronou, Spyros Staveris, Eleni Stergiou, Leonidas Toubanos, while Aliki Tsirliagkou — Art Director of Nitra Gallery — will be curating the exhibition.
