Montreal: Greek Candidates Win Elections

A new political landscape emerged in the municipality of Montreal since Denis Coderre was elected mayor.The new mayor took 32% of the ballots, followed by Melanie Joly, a newcomer  in municipal elections, who stole the spotlight leaving behind traditional parties with 26%.

Of the other candidates, Richard Bergeron gathered 26% despite its party organization, while Marcel Côte received 12.9%.

In Park Extension, Mary Deros was elected for the fourth time as the City Councillor, while the election of Helen Fotopoulos is not yet determined.

Meanwhile, in the suburb of Pierrefonds of the municipality of Montreal, the Greek candidate Dimitrios Beis was elected mayor with a comfortable majority.

In Laval, the second largest city of the metropolitan Montreal, Marc Demers was elected mayor. Vasilis Karidogiannis, member of the same party, was elected City Councillor, while  Aglaia Prevelakis of Jean-Claude Combs’ main opposition party was elected city councilor.
