Thessaloniki Food Festival Goes to Toronto

Thessaloniki Food FestivalA dinner which includes five different dishes will bring the cuisine of Thessaloniki to the residents of Toronto. The creator of this dinner is the Greek-Canadian chef Peter Minakis, who has also created the website www.kalofagas.ca.

On Oct. 9, he has organized an event with a menu inspired by Thessaloniki and its multicultural character, officials from Greece’s second-largest city stated in an announcement.

Minakis said that he created a menu with smell and aroma from the Thessaloniki kitchen. “The guests will travel to the Kaplani central market, the Greek tavernas and the beautiful, vibrant Thessaloniki,” is how he described it.

The menu consists of: bombidia, bouyiourdi, koulouri Thessalonikis, braised pork krassato with Halkidiki green olives, vlaxa trahana with wild mushrooms and shaved kefalograviera cheese and for dessert, the famous trigona Panoramatos.

This heaven of tastes will be accompanied by photos from Thessaloniki over the years and with the help of the department of Tourism of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

“This is the first effort to promote abroad the Thessaloniki Food Festival. We want also to introduce our festival in European countries,” said Spiros Pegkas, who is responsible for the festival.
