A Greek Judge in Ontario

The appointment of Greek-Canadian James Stribopoulos to the court of first instance in Ontario as judge is a great honor for the Greek community of Ontario.

Stribopoulos, who officially is to take office on October 2, took the entrance exam to practice law in Ontario in 1996 and then worked in law firms specializing in criminal law. He was assistant professor at Columbia Law School in the USA where he obtained his LLM and his JSD.

He has taught criminal law, criminal procedure and evidence act at the University of Alberta in Canada. In 2006 he became a professor of Criminal Law in the well-known Osgoode Hall Law School of the University of York in Toronto and in July 2012 he became the department’s assistant rector.

He has also worked as a volunteer in various positions during his career helping poor students. From today, October 2, he is officially the president of the Court of Brampton in Ontario.
