Linda, Imvrios Sing to Support Greek Education in Canada

linda imvriosGreek artists Mary Linda and Petros Imvrios will give concerts in Canada at the end of September, which will be held under the auspices of the Canadian Ambassador in Athens, Robert Peck, in the context of the Greek-Canadian diplomatic relations that have completed 70 years.

The concerts are scheduled to take place on Sept. 27 in Montreal, Sept. 29 in Ottawa and October 4 in Toronto, in collaboration with the Greek Communities of each city.

The aim of the concerts is that revenues will be collected for the reinforcement of teaching the Greek language and Greek-Canadian studies at Greek schools of the three metropolis.

“I hope that these concerts will honor the bonds that connect Greece and Canada and will bring us closer. The support of teaching the Greek language in the framework of the celebration of this anniversary that is a landmark of the diplomatic relations of the two countries, proves the cultural diversity, which makes Canada a unique country,” Robert Peck stated.

“I feel proud to be participating in a series of concerts which will contribute to the Greek education in Canada. I want to urge Greeks to never neglect the Greek education that constitutes the cornerstone of the Greek identity abroad. We are proud Greeks and we have to maintain our identity; it is an imperative need,” Mary Linda said.

Petros Imvrios, who comes from the Greek Diaspora in Germany, added: “Having grown up in Germany I know through my own experience the difficulties of teaching the Greek language abroad, the conservation of the Greek identity abroad. I am truly touched that through the concerts in Canada we will contribute to the support of the Greek education there.”

He continued: “I am also proud to participate in the scheme with the legendary Mary Linda, a singer, the voice and brio of who rest intact on stage. I literally bow to this multidimensional talent of the big lady of the Greek popular song.”

The concerts are a tribute to the music and songs of Manolis Chiotis.
