Canadian Press Flatters Greece

athensWith positive reports on Greek tourism, two of the largest newspapers in Canada and an informational site welcomed the Greek tourism minister Olga Kefalogiannis in Toronto and wrote glowing articles about Athens and Thessaloniki as well as the Greek islands.

The Globe and Mail wrote that Athens is a very “charming” city but also also pointed out tourist traps to avoid and wrote about ways to make the stay memorable.

The article pointed out that Athens’ nightlife is as flourishing as any other city in Europe and that the city’s residents, beleaguered by austerity measures, are finding ways to cope.

The article also noted 5 Greek Islands You Haven’t Heard Of – But Need to See, referring to the beauties of lesser known Greek islands and in particular: Folegandros, Patmos, Anafi, Samos and Samothrace.

The Toronto Star wrote about the country’s second-largest city, Thessaloniki and reported that online reservations have increased for the island of Mykonos by 20 to 30%. Finally, reference is made to the proclamation of the Year of Gastronomy in Santorini, as several summer festivals will be held to promote the products of the island.
