Meimarakis Visits Quebec’s National Assembly

BA4FD768A12848D5E0DDA6000835F5CCThe President of the Hellenic Parliament, Evangelos Meimarakis,  made an official visit to the National Assembly of Quebec on May 30  and received a warm welcome by Quebec Premier, Pauline Marois.

The achievements of the Greek Diaspora of Quebec and Montreal were the main focus of the meeting, while there were discussions on the Greek-speaking schools of the Greek Community of Greater Montreal, subsidized by the government of Quebec.

It is the first time that a Greek official has visited the National Assembly of Quebec, where on May 30 the blue-and-white flag waved next to the flags of Canada and Quebec.

Meimarakis had a warm meeting with his counterpart, President of the National Assembly of Quebec, Jacques Chagnon, who hosted a luncheon to honor him. The good bilateral relations between Greece and Quebec were confirmed, along with the desire to further promote the cooperation with the province of Quebec.

Meimarakis also met Deputy Prime Minister, Francois Gendron, and the leaders of parliamentary groups of the major and minor opposition parties, Mr. Fournier and Delteil respectively.

Meimarakis, was accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece to Canada, Eleftherios Angelopoulos, and the Consul General of Greece in Montreal, Thanos Kafopoulos.
