Montreal Cretans Mark 100th Anniversary

The regional governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis is visiting Montreal in order to attend thecelebration of the 100th anniversary since the foundation of the Cretans Association in the city.

In a statement, Arnaoutakis expressed his pride regarding Greeks’ achievements in Canada. “The Region of Crete aims at supporting our island in both tourism and primary production sectors as well as creating educational programs,” he said.

During his stay in Canada, he is going to meet Greek diplomats and investors from Canadian community. The commemorating celebrations in Montreal will end with a prom in which many Cretan artists are taking part and a photo exhibit at Montreal City Hall will open on Nov. 2.

At the closing of the event on Nov. 4 at the Hellenic Community Center, a theatrical group from Chania Laographic Group is scheduled to perform. On the same day, a commemoration of the Holocaust of Arkadi will take place in Cathedral of Agios Georgios.
