Lygizos Awarded for Boy Eating the Bird’s Food

Ektoras Lygizos, the rising theater and cinema director, was awarded in the festival Nouveau Cinema award in Montreal for his film, Boy Eating The Bird’s Food. The film narrates three days in the life of a 23-year-old man living in contemporary Athens, who’s struggling to survive, while at the same time trying to keep his pet canary alive.

It’s a struggle against all odds, but mostly against his own foolish pride that prevents from asking for help. He’s determined to make it on his own. The Festival du Nouveau Cinéma is committed to highlighting and contributing to the development of new trends in cinema and new media.

It is a showcase for new, original works, particularly in the fields of independent cinema and digital creation. The FNC’s said its strength lies in the quality of its diverse programming, selected for its excellence, originality and innovation.

Lygizos, born in Athens, has until now primarily worked in theater, directing productions of plays by Samuel Beckett, Henrik Ibsen, Anton Chekhov, and Alfred Jarry. In 2004 he competed at Venice in the Corto Cortissimo section with the short film Pure Youth (Agna niata).
