Dimitra Theodosiou Debuts in North America @ Opera of Montreal!

For all of November internationally renowned artist Dimitra Theodosiou will star in the role of Queen Elisabeth in Roberto Deveraux Opera by Gaetano Donizetti.  This will be presented for the first time at the Opera of Montreal. She lives permanently in Bologna, Italy, with a career resembling the Cinderella fairytale.
Her studies in music began when she was 25- years- old.  Almost at the same time, her career took off by taking up leading roles in musical stages around the world including Norma, Queen Elisabeth and Medea.
Her first contact with classical music was at the age of 6 as her father shared her passion for the opera and often took her to the Opera House of Athens. It was not her father’s passion that led her to her studies since he was against her becoming an opera singer. At the age of 18 she began her studies at the conservatory and took three years of piano lessons. Since she was too old to start a career in piano she left for Munich to study economics as her mother was German. Her musical studies were put aside, but she was lucky enough to meet her teacher who was about to become her music mentor during a trip to Zurich at the age of 25. For four years she committed herself to her musical studies working intensively with her teacher Brigitte Nikel.  Nikel saw the passion in her and successfully guided her in the right direction.
At the age of 27 she received a scholarship from the Lambrakis Foundation and began her studies at the Opera School of Munich. At the age of 29 she debuted in “Traviatta” at the Athens Concert Hall. During her career she has won many competitions and has taken up a variety of demanding roles. Her role as Odatella in the Verdi’s “Attila” paved the way towards her successful career in Europe.
Her demanding role as Queen Elisabeth in the Opera by Deveraux marks her first appearance in North America which she is very happy about. “This is my first appearance in North America, through a difficult and demanding role which was entrusted to me by the Opera of Montreal” stated the artist.
Theodosiou also stated that she carries her birthplace of Greece in her heart and does her best to be an ambassador of her homeland in opera houses around the world.
