Toronto: A Tribute to the Cypriot Mother

Another successful cultural event was organized on Wednesday, May 5th by the “Vergina” association in the Cypriot Community’s hall in Toronto. The event, which was titled “The Cypriot Mother”, was held under the support of the Cypriot Community and the Panmacedonian Union of Ontario, as well as the Consulate of Cyprus, the office for Education of the Greek Consulate, and the Cypriot Federation of Canada.

Event coordinators Michael and Roula Mouratides were in charge of the casting: Irene Ramfali, Irene Stoumpou, Lia Overs, Sophia Kontogianni, Nicole Amygdalide and Makis Andrikopoulos read poems and narrated stories that praised the patriotism of the Greek-Cypriot mother.

The General Consuls of Greece and Cyprus were in charge of the opening and closing of the main program making touching references to episodes that portray the greatness of the soul of the Greek-Cypriot mother.

Impressive and touching was also the presence of the dance group of the Cypriot Community “Chrisoprasino Filo” (golden-green leaf) when the General Consul of Cyprus Mr. S. Augoustides was at the podium (photo).
