Educational Program Sends Greek Canadian Students to Greece

Greek Canadian students wishing to reconnect with their roots should take notice! The American College of Thessaloniki’s (ACT) study abroad program has just become more accessible. The Hellenic American Heritage scholarships, given to 2-4 study abroad students each fall and spring semester, are now open to Canadians! Full and partial awards are available (a 5,000-9,000 dollar value).

ACT is located in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki and offers Greek-Canadians an excellent educational opportunity and a base from which to launch their explorations into their Hellenic roots. A dynamic modern city with character and historical importance, Thessaloniki provides students the best of both worlds; culture and city life. Students visit a plethora of archaeological, historical and natural sites; enjoy theatres and marketplaces, and are surrounded by Greek cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and clubs when they want to spend the day or the night out.

Kate Diedrick, Associate Director of North American Enrollment Services at ACT shared her thoughts: “We are very enthusiastic about the new outreach to Canada. Extending the Hellenic heritage scholarships to include Canadian students is a great opportunity for us as an institution, and for Greek Canadians looking to study in Greece. We look forward to hosting more Greek Canadians on campus!”

Eligibility guidelines and application procedures are as follows; you must complete the ACT Admissions Application, have proof of enrollment as a full time college/university student at an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution, have an overall academic GPA of 3.0 or better (submit transcript with application) write a personal statement for scholarship and gain approval from home institution to study at ACT, unless enrolling independently to the program.
