Celebrities on the Side of Athens Fires Victims

As the fire-stricken victims of the Athens fires still count their wounds, several celebrities show their support and raise funds to aid the Greeks.

The Athens seaside suburbs of East Attica were devastated by Monday’s wildfires that left 85 dead so far, hundreds wounded and over 2,000 destroyed homes.

Greek American journalist and actress Maria Menounos posed with a T-shirt saying “Love Greece” on Instagram where she wrote: “Wildfires are currently devastating Athens Greece. People racing to the ocean just to survive. “Today Greece is mourning, and in memory of those who were lost, we are declaring a three-day period of mourning,” Greek prime minister Tsipras said. “But we mustn’t let mourning overwhelm us, because these hours are hours of battle, unity, courage and, above all, solidarity.” My thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost their lives, everyone affected and the brave who are fighting the fires. Praying for rain to come quickly. 🇬🇷 Σας έχω στην καρδιά μου.”

Antonio Banderas expressed his grief on Instagram too, sending the message: “My heart is with the Greek people that are suffering the terrible effects of a devastating fire.”

Greek American Hollywood star Nia Vardalos chose a beautiful picture of Greece to “Send much love to Greece”.

Another Greek American actress, Melia Kreiling, started a fundraiser for the victims of the East Attica wildfires, proudly announcing on Instagram that she raised $ 10,000 in 12 hours:

“We did it!!!!! In just 12 hours we reached and passed(!!) the $10,000 goal for the @gofundme campaign in support of the victims of the #AthensFire — I will keep this campaign open until we reach the 24hr mark! More updates soon. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED AND CONTRIBUTED”
