The Embassy of Canada in Greece has announced that its armed forces joined over 40 countries in the Argonaut search-and-rescue drill taking place in Cyprus.

In a statement on social media, the embassy wrote: “This four-day international maritime evacuation exercise is designed to prepare, on a multinational level, effective coordination and response in times of crisis.”

Three embassy staff members are also participating in the exercise.

On Wednesday, Cyprus Defence Minister Savvas Angelides said his country would remain a safe haven for those in need, especially for refugees forced to abandon their homes and families.
