The Embassy of Canada to the Hellenic Republic posted on their Facebook page that February 9 is International Greek Language Day.
“Greek holds an important place in the history of the Western world. It is also the foundational language of Western science, especially astronomy, mathematics, logic, and philosophy,” says the Facebook page post.
Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia has a centre for Hellenic Studies which is committed to the promotion and study of Hellenism.
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at SFU is dedicated to the study and teachings of Greek history, language and culture.
“Fundamental to this endeavor is the application of innovative technology to enhance the learning experience for the student and scholar,” says the Simon Fraser Hellenic Studies website.
The Centre aims to make the Hellenic Studies program attainable to university and non-university students, with teaching and research as the foundation of the Centre’s activities.
The Centre is committed to the survival of Greek studies both in the West and in Asia.
