Santorini Board Game Launches in Calgary After 31 Years in the Making (Video)

Gordon Hamilton, a man from Calgary, had a dream that was 31-years in the making before it became a reality — the board game he invented and named “Santorini.”

The board game has made history as it came to fruition with the help of the largest crowdfunding campaign ever seen in Calgary that brought in some $700,000.

The game details cards with mythical Greek gods and cities modeled after Greek cities; truly bringing a Greek experience to all who play Santorini.

The game is suitable for players five-years-old and up and is available around Calgary at Pips, Metal Galaxy, Boxcar, Discovery Hut, Sentry Box, Revolution and Hexagon Game Cafe. Also you can purchase the game for your home enjoyment online — just look here for prices and stores where you can purchase the game in the USA and Canada.

Originally the game wasn’t as cartoon-like as the final product is now. Hamilton explained to the Calgary Eyeopener, saying, “I’m a minimalist. My old game version in 2004 was just white blocks with Greek nudes and I thought that was the most beautiful way to present the game, but now it has a cartoon-y feel.”

Partnering with Rowley Games created the cartoon-feel to the game and Hamilton credits that change as the reason the crowdfunding campaign did so well.
