On May 8, Dr. and Mrs. Andreas Vikis hosted a reception in honor of the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Pavlos Anastasiades and his wife Maria. The reception was also a celebration of the recent establishment of the High Commission of Cyprus in Ottawa.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Greece H.E. Mr. George Marcantonatos and his wife Vassiliki, the former Ambassador of Canada to Greece and High Commissioner to Cyprus Mr. Robert Peck and his wife Maria. In addition, the ceremony was attended by the former Ambassador of Belgium to Greece Mr. Marc Van den Reeck, Lieutenant-Colonel (retired) William Porter, a veteran of the Canadian United Nations forces in Cyprus, and his wife Antoinette. Many other diplomatic staff and several friends of Cyprus and Canadians of Cypriot origin were present at the reception.

A highlight of the evening was a presentation by Mr. Porter that included many fond memories of Cyprus. In reply, Mr. Anastasiades thanked Mr Porter and the Canadian UN veterans for their role in Cyprus and expressed the hope that Cyprus will be re-united. Anastasiades also thanked the hosts for their hospitality and all the guests for their presence.
