Pointe-à-Callière Exhibition on Ancient Greeks a Great Hit

alexander-the-greatThe exhibition “The Greeks – Agamemnon to Alexander the Great” at the archaeological museum of Pointe-à-Callière in Montreal, Canada, has ended after four successful months.

“Pointe-à-Callière, Montreal’s Archaeology and History Complex, is proud to announce that 132,156 visitors came through the Museum’s doors during the world premiere presentation of the exhibition ‘The Greeks – Agamemnon to Alexander the Great,’ from December 12, 2014, to April 26, 2015, breaking attendance records for a presentation held during the tourism off-season,” noted the museum in a press release. In fact, the exhibition broke all previous records since the museum’s opening in 1992.

Over the next months, the exhibition will also travel to Ottawa, Chicago and Washington.

The exhibition presented 5.000 years of ancient Greek history, featuring artifacts collected from 22 museums. It was organized under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and was divided into six zones.

Visitors had the chance to learn about “many famous characters from the Greek history, including Homer, Aristotle, Plato, King Philip II of Macedon, and King Leonidas of Sparta. The heritage of ancient Greece, which we can still see all around us today in various aspects of our daily lives -such as politics and philosophy, arts and literature, mathematics, architecture, medicine and sports- was clearly illustrated in the exhibition. Among the many highlights of the exhibition are a number of artifacts that are true treasures of humanity never before displayed outside Greece,” noted the press release.

A free mobile app was released by Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s New Media Lab that could be used as a guide throughout and after the exhibition tour.
