sickkids partnershipSickKids in Toronto has started a new partnership with the Oncology Department of Aghia Sofia Children’s Hospital in Athens, which aims to help transform the latter into a “Centre of Excellence” capable of meeting the needs of paediatric cancer patients across Greece and the Balkan region.

The collaboration of the institutes will be largely in regards to clinical services planning in order to improve the quality and delivery of clinical programs, as well as the quality of patient safety and risk management to improve methods and outcomes. Their mutual goal is to aid the expansion of Children’s Oncology Unit “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis – ELPIDA” at the Aghia Sofia Children’s Hospital in Athens as a center of expertise and capacity in paediatric oncology care.

In support of this initiative, a Gala event entitled “A Night to Remember” will be held in Toronto on October 23. The goal is to inform the Greek-Canadian community about the nature of the collaboration between Aghia Sofia, ELPIDA and SickKids, encourage support for this important initiative that will positively impact on paediatric oncology care both in Greece and Canada and save the lives of children in both countries. The night will also be devoted to fundraising efforts directed toward professional education and training for Children’s Oncology Hospital nursing, allied health and physicians at SickKids in Toronto, as well as clinical mentorships at Children’s Oncology Hospital.
