The Cretan Association of Montreal will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of the death of the famous Cretan painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos a.k.a El Greco, who lived and thrived in Spain. The celebration will feature the Yiannis Smaragdis film “El Greco.”

The film, which was screened at the Greek Film Festival in 2010, receiving positive reviews from the cine-critics of Montreal, will be screened on Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal with free entry.

The event will be held by the Cretan Association of Montreal in collaboration with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Consulate General of Greece in Montreal, the Greek Community of Montreal and the Spanish Embassy in Canada.

On the occasion of “El Greco Year 2014,” various events have been organized around the world with the most significant taking place in Spain.

More specifically, an exhibition entitled “The Greek of Toledo” will be taking place in various venues of Toledo. It will be the biggest exhibition to ever be organized in honor of Greece’s most famous painter. El Greco’s paintings from Greece and the U.S. will travel to Spain as part of the exhibition.
