An evening dedicated to longevity on the subject of the Greek- Mediterranean cuisine is organized at the residence of the Greek Ambassador Eleftherios Angelopoulos, in Ottawa, on Thursday, the 17th October.

The aim of the evening is to raise money that will be going toward purchase of a cardiac MRI for the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, the first of its kind in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec.

The evening, entitled “Healthy Heart Greek Food and Wine Tasting”, will include a demonstration of Greek cookery from the famous chef Christine Cushing. She will present cooking shows to the Food Network Canada and to a large private channel.

Christine Cushing’s menu is inspired by the recipes of Ikaria, an island in the eastern Aegean Sea, where the inhabitants exceed the average lifetime by ten years. In parallel, Greek wines Agioritiko, Assyrtiko and Xinomavro will be served during the evening.

Talking to AMNA, the Ambassador Mr. Angelopoulos said the evening is dedicated to the healthy Mediterranean diet, the Greek wines and to the principle of moderation in life. The donations are destined for a cardiac diagnostic machine. Mr. Angelopoulos stated: “Greece has the opportunity to demonstrate the virtues of its cuisine and its excellent wines by participating in the Canadian reality with a symbolic donation to a large Canadian hospital.”

Mr. Andrew Pipe will share the secrets of a healthy diet with the 100 guests during the evening, while Mr. Alexander Dick will refer to the usefulness of the MRI diagnostic machine, which can make the early diagnosis of cardiac problems without causing complications to patients.

“This is an informative, fun and interactive happening, which has never took place in Ottawa”, says Steve Ramfos, Board member of the Institute for Heart Diseases.
