Greek Canadian Kathy Phillips Runs for the Cure

Greek Canadian artist Kathy Phillips didn’t wait for breast cancer to knock on her door before becoming proactive. After Phillips aunt (also a Greek Canadian) was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, she decided to run for CIBC’s Run for the Cure-Canada’s largest single day fundraising event. She could never have imagined, less than a year later, she would be running for herself.
In 2012 Toronto based Phillips was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, undergoing multiple surgeries including a double mastectomy. She has since been an inspiration for many women, responding to her own diagnosis with an open tell-all approach, creating a gateway for others to share their story and make a difference.
To date Phillips has raised nearly $15,000 for CIBC’s Run for the Cure, as well as offering emotional support to other women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Phillips contributions to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation have landed her as a spokesperson for this year’s event, where she will be singing the Canadian National Anthem for the opening ceremony.
The annual Run for the Cure will be held this Sunday October 6. To read Kathy’s story, participate in the run, or to make a donation, visit the CIBC Run for the Cure website.
