Michaloliakos Arrest Fascinates Canadians

Michaloliakos arrestThe news of the arrest of the Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos and a number of his party’s leaders and members has seized the attention of the media in Canada.

Both newspapers and the broadcasting media referred to the reactions of the Golden Dawn members outside the court, while they focused on the threats of Michaloliakos for withdrawal of the 18 MPs of his party and with the possibility of dissolution of the Parliament and the fall of the government.

The detailed reportages of the international news agencies, which were republished in the Canadian press, refer to the Greek citizen’s question, whether the mass arrests of the leaders of the Golden Dawn can crack down on the rise of the fascist phenomenon in Greece or if it’s a  grandstanding ploy by the government of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the New Democracy Conservative leader who had gone soft on them for 15 months.

The neo-Nazis are being charged with operating a criminal gang as the government attempts to break them apart by legal means in the wake of the murder of a 34-year-0ld anti-fascist hip-hop artist for which one of its members was charged.
