Nana Mouskouri to Be Honored by McGill

mouskouriInternationally acclaimed Greek singer and UNICEF ambassador Nana Mouskouri and Dr Barré-Sinoussi, the acting Director of the Regulation of Retro viral Infections Unit in the Department of Virology at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, who shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2008, have been selected to receive an honorary degree from the historic McGill University in Montreal for 2013.

The designation of the Greek artist Honorary to a Doctorate in the Department of Arts of the Canadian university, was decided in recognition of her invaluable contribution to music worldwide as well as her continuing supply of humanitarian initiative mainly for children’s rights.

Well known to the public of Montreal, Mouskouri apart from the music field, has been active for more than 20 years in children’s rights as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, while she has served as a member of the European Parliament through the New Democracy party from 1994 until 1999.

Mouskouri has participated in several UNICEF actions and projects for children, visiting Africa, Latin America, Central America, Mexico, Bosnia and Asia, and has performed in charity concerts and events worldwide.

The award ceremony will be held on May 30, in Montreal.
